Our mission
We turn your ideas into valuable capital.
We focus on small and medium-sized businesses that do not have their own IP departments but still rely on their own software, technologies, brands and know-how. We help them identify these innovation results in a timely manner, legally protect them and turn them into assets that generate revenue and increase the value of the company.
At the same time, we cooperate with research and development organizations - from the initial recognition of results suitable for industrial property protection to their registration and setting up licensing or transfer models towards industry.
We offer support to colleges and universities in education in the field of intellectual property and in the transfer of research results into practice, whether in the form of licenses, spin-off companies or as part of contract research.
We pay special attention to franchise systems – we help them protect their brand, know-how and business model so that the franchise business is legally sound, scalable and resistant to copying by competitors.
We combine activities in the field of IP law, IP strategies and IP mediation under the common brand DAVID KARABEC IP.
The company's professional activities are based primarily on the experienced leadership of JUDr. David Karabec, MPA, LL.M., who has been involved in legal advice to entrepreneurs since 1990. In 1993, he became a commercial lawyer and has been working as an attorney since 1996. Since then, he has also been actively involved in publishing and lecturing with a focus on industrial rights and licenses in business, know-how protection and competition, while constantly deepening his professional knowledge in this area. In 1999, he completed a two-year specialization study of intellectual property rights at the Institute of Industrial Law Education at the Industrial Property Office in Prague. In the years 2004 - 2012, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Law at the Banking Institute of the University of Prague (BIVŠ), where he specialized in the issues of industrial rights and licenses. In 2019, he completed a two-year specialization Master of Public Administration in Research, Development and Innovation (MPA VVI) and in the same year became a member of the prestigious Czech Association of Inventors and Innovators. In 2021, he completed postgraduate studies (LL.M.) in alternative dispute resolution (out-of-court dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration), completed specialized mediation and negotiation courses for patent attorneys and became Vice-Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Intellectual Property magazine. In 2022, he became a member of the Legislative Board of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Tradesmen of the Czech Republic. In his professional law practice, he focuses primarily on issues of industrial and copyright rights, licenses, protection of know-how and trade secrets, unfair competition, IP mediations and procedural representation of clients in these areas of law. He is also the founder and director of the IP Mediation Center Prague, a registered institute that has been actively promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) options in the field of intellectual property protection since 2021.

How to protect your rights in franchising?
Franchise systems
In franchising, a trademark is one of the key pillars of the entire business model - the common brand, logo, and name provide the recognition and credibility of the entire network in the eyes of customers.
Each franchisee does business under the franchisor's brand and benefits from its reputation, which is why the franchise agreement very precisely defines how they are allowed to use the trademark, what standards they must adhere to, and what is considered misuse of the brand.
Any violation of these rules – from unauthorized modifications to the logo to damaging the brand's reputation – may lead not only to compensation for damages, but also to the immediate termination of the franchise agreement and a ban on further use of the mark.
This is why a professional approach and consistent enforcement of trademark rights in franchising is essential for protecting the entire network and the investment of each individual franchisee.
